Dear Parish Family,
We are happy to report that we have completed our second NexTrex recycling program! Thank you to all who saved your plastic trash and brought it to St. Luke's for recycling. We will not be continuing the recycling challenge in 2026, and we ask that plastic is no longer brought to St. Luke's.
Thin plastics, like cling film and grocery bags, are hard to recycle because they get stuck in the processing machines. This is why our local Jackson recycling center does not take these items—specialized equipment is required to do it. However, it is still possible to recycle these items in Jackson. While any organization, school, or business can enter a NexTrex recycling challenge, it is not necessary to sign up for the challenge to donate your plastic. Any person can drop their plastic off at a Trex drop-off location without having to record the submissions for Trex. These locations in our area include Kohls, Kroger, Piggly Wiggly, and Save-A-Lot. Simply take your plastic to one of these locations and ask an employee where the plastic drop-off location is. These locations are not always well marked, and are sometimes located behind the building, so it is best to first ask where it should be going. Other stores, such as Walmart and Target, have small collection boxes near their entrances, but this plastic does not go to Trex.
Thank you again for participating in this program with us for the last two years, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Concerning the recycling of other items, you can visit the City of Jackson Recycling Center. They take certain hard plastics, cardboard, metal cans, paper, and other common household trash. You can read more here about the items they take, and how they want the items presented at their center.
Thank you again for your efforts to keep our community clean!
